Image

Since Hordak's Horde drove the Masters of the Universe out of Castle Grayskull, they have been reduced to making small attacks on Horde forces outside of the capital city. Spotting a high-security iso-block, they defeat its guards and break in, hoping to find someone they can use as leverage to get their home back. Unfortunately, the one imprisoned inside is Evil-Lyn, whom they all find especially annoying. Despite that, they free her, and learn that she was being kept in the iso-block out of fear. She happens to know the whereabouts of Skeletor, and if she could contact him, it might shift the balance of power away from Hordak, who betrayed him.

Meanwhile, in Greenwich Village, Madame Xanadu receives a strange visitor. The woman has come to petition John Constantine for help. She must warn him that Skeletor walks the earth. Constantine happens to be present, and he is aware of the woman's identity, as she is a figure of myth that he is familiar with. She is Queen Marlena of Eternia.

In Salem, Massachusetts, Skeletor struggles to get Black Alice to cooperate with him. The angst-ridden teen is playing host to a greater being, who has recruited Skeletor to siphon this world's magic energy away. Only once this world has died can he return to Eternia. So, Skeletor is forced to tolerate Alice, for the time being.

Marlena relays that same information to John and Xanadu, explaining that while Eternia is known to be a great font of magic, replete with powerful mages, that magic is a fact of life for them. On Earth, there are so few mages that this planet's magic energy is practically untapped, making it a dangerous, near limitless weapon in the hands of one of Eternia's skilled mages. Despite having conceded that what Marlena says is true, John insists that she remain behind, and leave the issue to him and the Justice League Dark. In response, she forcibly introduces his face to some furniture. As he begins to admit defeat, everything goes dark, and they realize that something is going quite wrong.

Annoyed at having to hide away in the House of Secrets, Skeletor demands to know who the greatest threat to his plans might be. Alice responds that the Justice League are certainly that - almost as bad as the Masters of the Universe. She shows him images of the League in action, and explains their nature. Skeletor is concerned about whether it has any mystics in it, and Alice refers him instead to the Justice League Dark, run by John Constantine. This name is not unfamiliar to Skeletor. In fact, Constantine is no hero, if the stories he's heard are true. He considers that it might be a good idea to get John to join him, instead of Alice.

Meanwhile, Evil-Lyn is excited (in suspect ways) by the prospect of violating King Randor's pan-dimensional accord, which calls for no travel between dimensions from Eternia. With the possibility that Skeletor might become their ally in getting Eternia out of Hordak's grasp - as much as he may want to take it all for himself - the Masters of the Universe are seriously considering travelling to Earth to get him. Unfortunately, in order to home in on Skeletor's location, Evil-Lyn needs someone of her own blood - otherwise, she'd have done so much sooner. However, because someone of Prince Adam's blood is on this planet, she can use him to get there.

Before they can even fully understand what's going on, Evil-Lyn uses the spell to whisk He-Man and Teela away to Earth, where Adam is surprised to see his mother.

On passe au tome 2 : Justice Denied

Image

Un résumé
Madame Xanadu's shop is under attack by evil magical projections, and John Constantine attempts in vain to prevent the monstrous rats from tearing he and his companions to pieces. Unfortunately, the magic that they were created from is not of this world - it is from Eternia. Evil-Lyn recognizes it, and helps by combining the magic of this world with the magic of hers, and together, she and John dispel the projections. While Evil-Lyn and He-Man are merely myths for John, he is a myth on their world. Even so, the threat of Skeletor, who has found his way to this Earth, is all too real.

He-Man, who has recently been reunited with his mother, Marlena, is curious as to what she is doing in this strange new world. She explains that she was born here. She had been an astronaut. Her ship crossed the dimensional veil, crash-landing on Eternia, where she met King Randor and fell in love. If Skeletor hadn't rewritten her memories and stranded her on her home-planet, she'd still be with Randor today. He-Man admits that his own memory was similarly wiped thanks to Skeletor's use of some kind of "Skull of Power". However, he had not come to Earth to find her. He and Teela joined forces with Evil-Lyn to retrieve Skeletor and use his power to defeat Hordak. Marlena warns that Skeletor will not be too happy to see Evil-Lyn, though. After all, he has taken up with a new woman: Black Alice. Not to mention that the pair are working together to drain the earth of its mystical life-force.

Elsewhere, on the Justice League Satellite, the Justice League is surprised to have their base intruded upon by Skeletor himself. Unfortunately for Superman, Skeletor is aware of the Kryptonian's weaknesses, and uses magic to attack. With the rest of the League's attention, Skeletor explains that he needs minions, and he feels they will do just fine.

Meanwhile, on Eternia, the remaining Masters of the Universe trace the origin of residual mystical readings to Evil-Lyn. This begs the question: did Prince Adam and Teela go with Evil-Lyn of their own volition, or were they tricked? With the aid of a Horde Dimensional Transponder, Man-At-Arms traces Evil-Lyn's energy signature to find out where the prince and his daughter were led.

John Constantine leads He-Man and company to the Batcave, hoping that Batman would be there to help them, but the caped crusader is absent. Suddenly, and incoming teleport brings Batman and one of Skeletor's evil monsters back to the cave, still locked in battle. Using his Power Sword, He-Man comes to Batman's rescue, though he is not so grateful for it. John admits that it was his plan to come see him in the Batcave, because lives are at stake, but they have little time to talk, as Superman appears, under the influence of Skeletor's magic. Though Batman attempts to get Kryptonite to protect himself, he and the others are all beaten out of the Batcave, and forced to contend with the rest of the League, who have also been tainted by magic.

The League focuses on capturing the magicians among their prey, but Skeletor has informed them that He-Man is their real threat, so Superman turns his attention to him. Fortunately, He-Man is strong enough to hold his own against Superman, for the time being - if only by sheer determination alone. That determination leads him to thrust his sword straight into Superman's chest, to everyone's horror. The magic that controlled the Justice League fades, as Superman collapses, and their horror increases when they realize that the Man of Steel is dead.

Un aperçu du volume 3 : Dark Orko

Image

résumé
After having been attacked by the Justice League while they were under the control of Skeletor, He-Man thrust the Power Sword through Superman's chest. Naturally, the Justice League - particularly Wonder Woman - is not happy. When Batman explains that these are his friends, and obviously not themselves, He-Man realizes that he should never have fought them to the death, and decides that it would be best to relinquish the Power Sword, and return to his normal self as Prince Adam. Teela warns that he shouldn't do it, as the League doesn't trust him, even as a powerless prince of Eternia. Regardless of Adam's wishes, Evil-Lyn uses her magic to transport she and her companions to safety.

They appear in Metropolis, and despite being far from Gotham, Madame Xanadu reminds that news of Superman's death will surely bring the whole world down on them. Annoyed, Adam complains that if they had been allowed to stay, he could have reasoned with the Justice League. Now, they'll be considered fugitives. Sternly, Evil-Lyn reminds that they don't have time to waste on reasoning, when Skeletor is siphoning away the planet's life force. John Constantine agrees that the sooner they get the Eternians back to Eternia, the better.

Back in Gotham, the League tries to comprehend what has just happened. Green Lantern can't seem to trace Evil-Lyn's magic with his ring, while Batman continues to try to explain that they ought to be seeking Skeletor instead. All the while, Wonder Woman cradles Superman's body in her arms, and is disturbed when it begins to emit a bright, crackling energy. Suddenly, his body seems to evaporate, leaving her arms empty. Batman warns that none of them are thinking clearly yet. Superman attacked the Batcave unprompted - very unlike him. The rest of the league disregards his warning, focusing instead on the capture of Superman's perceived murderers. Grimly, Batman orders them to get off of his lawn.

News of Superman's death begins to spread, and Skeletor is glad that his plan worked. He knew that He-Man's warrior's code would ill-serve him in another world. Now, the Justice League will waste its energies hunting He-Man down instead of trying to stop him from siphoning away the Earth's mystical life-force. No one can stop him.

On Eternia, the other Masters of the Universe attempt to find a way to cross dimensions by using the Evil Horde's technology. There is a risk, however, that if they do not find Teela and He-Man that they will not be able to come back. Without hesitation, they all pass through the portal and land unceremoniously in the midst of Greenwich Village, right in front of Madame Xanadu's shop. The public are not receptive to their sudden arrival, but Man-At-Arms manages to convince a teenage boy to explain that Earth's warriors are the Justice League.

At the House of Mystery, John Constantine has some difficulty in convincing the Justice League Dark to help the people who are rumoured to have killed Superman. Regardless of the Eternians' intentions, Frankenstein insists that they must find them.

Steve Trevor, meanwhile, is attempting to do just that with the help of the Justice League of America. They are surprised to receive an offer of help from Man-At-Arms and the Masters of the Universe. That offer of help is rejected outright, though, when Steve realizes that they are in league with He-Man.

In the House of Secrets, Black Alice wonders about whom Skeletor has allied himself with. This entity has promised to help him take back Eternia from Hordak, but Skeletor is sure he will try to take it for himself, given the opportunity. In saying so, the pair receive an unexpected visit from that "ally", who demands to know how much longer he must wait for the task he assigned to be completed. Skeletor insists that all is according to plan, and soon the Earth will crumble without its magic - but not before they have the pleasure of witnessing Earth's mightiest heroes slay the Masters of the Universe. Amused, the dark entity comments that the Masters of the Universe had always laughed at him before. Now, they would cower before the power of Dark Orko.

Image

The news is that Superman is dead, and that He-Man is responsible. As if that wasn't bad enough, the planet seems to be suffering numerous disasters - and though nobody yet knows the truth of it, it is a side-effect of Skeletor's plan to siphon away the Earth's mystical life-force. He-Man and company have been transported, in the meantime, to the Orkney Islands, where they can see firsthand what Skeletor's plan has wrought. There, they discover a device - the syphon - which is draining away the magic inherent in the islands. Evil-Lyn explains that destroying it would only alert Skeletor to their presence - but left alone it can help them trace the signal back to Skeletor's location.

Meanwhile, in Metropolis, the remaining Masters of the Universe are locked in battle with the Justice League of America, who suspect them of being complicit in Superman's death. Steve Trevor seeks shelter long enough to contact Wonder Woman, and tell her of his team's discovery. Looking for herself, Diana explains that while they look similar, these insurgents are not those who killed Superman. Regardless, she suggests that the JLA hold them long enough for her to meet him and use her Lasso of Truth to interrogate them.

In the Batcave, Batman has been ignoring Steve's calls, aware that the hero community is simply out for blood, with no understanding of what really happened. Batman's investigation has found that Superman's sudden and rapid decomposition left no DNA behind, and indicates that maybe Superman isn't dead at all. Alfred suggests that Bruce might just be in denial, and the suggestion gives Bruce an idea.

At the House of Secrets, Black Alice comes to the unpleasant realization that her employers have no intention of seeing her through their plan alive. Orko has little care for her life, as he intends to use Earth's life force to remake Eternia in his image, as he has already done with his home dimension of Trolla, subjugating his entire race. Skeletor doubts his own ability to survive the ordeal, given Orko's ambition.

While the JLA battles the Masters of the Universe, Swamp Thing catches Green Lantern trying to kill Moss Man with a chainsaw construct and intervenes, noting that the construct was in poor taste. Nearby, the rest of the Justice League Dark imposes itself between the warring factions. After successfully separating the Masters of the Universe from their attackers, they magically transport them back to Gotham City, where they explain that they are friends, and not foes. John Constantine explains that Teela and He-Man are hopefully still seeking Skeletor, after he framed them for Superman's death - which never happened. Batman explains that the Superman all of Earth's heroes saw die was a magical facsimile, and somewhere out there, the real Superman is imprisoned. The time has come to pool the all of their assets and save both worlds - and Superman - together.

Image

Prince Adam and his companions make their way to the House of Secrets, which Evil-Lyn has pinpointed as Skeletor's place of power, from which he is siphoning the planet's mystical energies, and feeding them to his master. Adam suggests that Teela and his mother Queen Marlena head in through the back, while he and Evil-Lyn go through the front. Teela, though, warns that he should turn into He-Man before he does anything. His uncle will surely blast them on sight, and Adam needs to be at full strength. Evil-Lyn warns against it, though, reminding that Skeletor will sense the change, and they will lose the element of surprise. Taking Adam aside, Teela warns that as much as the Queen's powerlessness is of concern, she worries more about him being alone with Evil-Lyn. She may yet turn traitor, despite momentarily being united in cause.

Meanwhile, Skeltor monitors how well his siphons are working, noting that most of the planet's mystical life force has been drained away. In less than an hour, this world will be no more. His ally, Black Alice reminds that however well he thinks he's doing, Skeletor will surely be double-crossed by his benefactor, Orko. As if in answer, Orko calls on Skeletor, berating him for failing to notice that he has unwanted guests outside. Despite Skeletor's protests, Orko decides to intervene personally, casting a spell that will enslave the entire population of the planet.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Masters of the Universe have decided, finally, to band together against Skeletor with Batman and the Justice League Dark in Gotham City. Suddenly, John Constantine intercepts a blast of evil magic, only just managing to shield them all. A call on the Justice League's global frequency confirms that it was another mind-control spell on a massive scale. Heroes and villains alike, around the world, are being called to destroy enemies of Orko.

As Adam rushes in through the House of Secrets' front door, Evil-Lyn prepares to betray him, offering him up to Skeletor as a gift. Skeletor steps in front of her magical attack, nullifying it abnd warning that they will need the prince if they are to stop their one true enemy. Confused and embittered that Teela was right, Adam demands to know who might be behind this all if not Skeletor. His uncle responds that if they did not have a common enemy, he would have killed the boy on sight.

Skeletor tells of how their real foe is one that Adam once knew as a friend. Eons ago, the name Horde Prime struck terror into the heart of the cosmos. His evil lives on through his son Hordak, who slew his own father, claiming his skull as trophy. Skeletor harnessed that skull's power to erase everyone's memories and take over Eternia. However, He-Man wasn't the first to try to stop that plan. Orko of Trolla had realized that Skeletor found the skull of power long before anyone else did. Famous for having his spells backfire on him, Orko's intent to destroy the skull resulted in his absorbing the worst qualities of Horde Prime, imbuing him with power beyond anyone's dreaming. He also lost his compassion, empathy, and humanity. Now, it will take all of them to stop the foolish troll who had only wanted to be a wizard, and instead became a mad god.

Meanwhile, on Trolla, Superman has been summoned there by Orko, and struggles against his magical bonds. Orko taunts him, warning that even if he escaped, he'd still be trapped in another universe, subject to the whims of a being with absolute power - thanks to the skull of Horde Prime. Superman, thinking he has found Orko's weakness charges at the skull, only to be thrust back. Even knowing what he must destroy is useless if his own power cannot overcome magic. For all his strength on Earth, Superman is just meat to Orko.

Soon, the Masters of the Universe and Justice League Dark arrive at the House of Secrets to find Eternia's greatest heroes allied with its greatest villains. Skeletor explains that he has turned coat on his master, and tried to deactivate his syphons to no avail. In the meantime, Prince Adam has gone to Trolla to fight Orko in his own domain, and try to rescue Superman, if possible. Man-At-Arms wonders at what happened to Skeletor since He-Man defeated him. Skeletor explains that he fell into the abyss surrounding Castle Grayskull, near death. There, Orko reached out to him via Horde Prime's skull, dragging him to Trolla. He had already remade his world and his people to suit him, and he soon re-made Skeletor out of pity or jest. Regardless, Skeletor was infused with the magic of his broken Havoc Staff - which he hopes will prove Orko's undoing.

Unfortunately, in the meantime, the heroes and villains of the world have begun to converge on the House of Secrets, eager to defend Orko's plan.

oui !!
